Tide & Threshold: Writing Different Worlds in Crushing Times
w/ Sia Luna

Saturday, August 16th 1-4pm Pacific via Zoom
(A recording will be made available to all registrants for a limited time afterwards.)

How do we write our way through grief and rage? How do we transform these forces—not into something softer, but into something true?

In times of collapse and constraint, our bodies hold stories too vast for words—grief like an ocean, rage like fire at the edge of our throats. Tide & Threshold is a generative writing workshop that invites you to move with these forces, not against them, using somatic practice and embodied writing to crack open new portals of possibility.

Through guided exercises and prompts (portals), we will:

  • Submerge—attune to the grief and rage held in our bodies and give them form.

  • Erupt—write with unflinching honesty, naming the world as it is.

  • Cross the Threshold—channel our embodied truths into writing that disrupts oppressive systems and dreams the world forward.

This three-hour workshop is for those who feel the weight of now—activists, artists, abolitionists, writers, humans, anyone longing to shape language into liberation. Come as you are. Bring your grief. Bring your rage. Bring the version of you that knows another world is possible.

Pricing:

The following payment model is inspired by and borrowed from the payment model of Bayo Akomolafe’s class, We Will Dance With Mountains: Into the Cracks.

This workshop offers a sliding scale based on your relative financial standing. In an effort to reflect disparity in economic condition and access to wealth, the following payment system is designed for those with more wealth to help cover the costs of those with less access to wealth and resources. We trust your discernment of your current financial situation and how you fit into the global economic context.

As you decide what amount to pay, please consider your present-day financial situation governed by income, but also the following factors: historical discrimination faced by your peoples; your financial wealth (retirement/savings/investments); your access to income and financial wealth, both current and anticipated (how easily could you earn more income compared to other people in your community, country, and the world; are you expecting an inheritance); people counting on your financial livelihood including dependents and community members; the socio-economic conditions of your locale (relative to other places in your country and in the world); your relationship to food & resource scarcity.

Sia Luna (she/they) is a sci-fi abolitionist sapphic siren femme writing a memoir about being incarcerated as a child and dreaming up futures without cages. With a background in dance and somatics, Sia weaves body-based practice with radical imagination, guiding others to write from the deep waters of grief, rage, and hope. Their work is rooted in transformative and healing justice, and in the sacred art of world-building beyond carceral punishment. They are the founder of Shared Water, a creative project exploring climate grief, abolition, and interspecies kinship, and have facilitated workshops at the intersections of trauma, community, and storytelling. Sia believes writing is a spell, a somatic act, and a blueprint for collective liberation. When not writing or scheming, you can find them in a random diner, studying time travel and shapeshifting as both science fiction and survival strategy, or plotting utopian futures with fellow dreamers.
